Dust of snow...

As I tatted this last night, I couldn't help but be reminded of this poem called Dust of Snow by Robert Frost...

The way a crow
Shook down on me
The dust of snow
From a hemlock tree

Has given my heart
A change of mood
And saved some part
Of a day I had rued.

Somehow, tatting this little flake in this gorgeous thread (by Jess!) made the ending of what had been a seemingly long day become spectacularly peaceful and changed my mood entirely.

The pattern is Layered Tatted Snowflake by Be-Stitched, I saw it on Fox's blog the other day and she termed it simply satisfying.  It was. (22/25 motif challenge)

  1. Very pretty! I'm always interested to know what makes someone else like a pattern. Is it easy? Easy to remember the pattern? Forms beautifully as you go?

    1. In this case, it felt like it flowed...possibly due to the chains and lack of having to turn work, possibly due to the way the thread's color repeats, or a combination. I was using a shuttle with a pick not a hook, so the last round I had to use a hook for the joins between and the many SLTs could be new for a beginner, but made the tatting faster as there too one did not have to turn the work. I actually had jsut employed that on the Merriment pattern so I could use just one shuttle, so it felt familiar I suppose.

  2. That's a lovely snowflake. Thanks for the poem, too.

  3. hmm, are you sure that's my HDT? It looks like Lizbeth Denim Whisper, which I did send you a sample of. I mean, I would love it if I did come up with a colorway like Denim Whisper, but I wouldn't want to take credit for something that isn't mine. :o)
    I love the snowflake! It's pretty!! <3

    1. Pretty sure Jess!, it was a hand wound skein, from you, hand dyed (unless you made the effort to wind it so that every color matched up like a hand dyed skein), and it's more lavendar and blue...no pink even though my pics look pinkish and none of that dark blue that denim whisper has that trends toward being green. Also, it's a size 20, the sample of Denim Whisper you sent is a size 40...it's pretty too, but I LOVE the thread you did much more. It's the perfect colors for my Sister...her husband loves blue and she loves lavendar.

    2. Ah, the color must be really wonky on my screen then. Because over here it looks very pink. Color is so hard to capture though.
Lavendar and blue are very pretty together. :o)
